Construction Birthday Cake

Happy birthday to our Weston this week!  He is now 4 years old!
Here’s how I made this Construction Birthday Cake for him.
I used a chocolate cake mix and cooked it in one 9″ round cake pan and one smaller round pan.  I placed them on a 11 x 17 cardboard and frosted them both with chocolate frosting.  I did leave one space on the larger cake without frosting, where I placed the tractor that’s digging into the cake.  Then I added the other tractors and the candy.  I used the mini unwrapped Kit Kats for the “bricks” and chopped Snickers for the “rocks”.  Yes, I did put chocolate frosting on the cardboard next to the cake so I could stick the candy into the frosting to hold it in place.
I found a clip art image online for the construction tape that I put on the signs.  I taped the “Caution” sign onto toothpicks so it would stick up on the cake.  I taped the other sign right on to the clean side of the cardboard.
I loved making this cake because it was pretty simple and fast, yet it looked amazing.
It was a huge success!

I want to make this for my son’s 2nd birthday party, too! But I am having a hard time guessing how many people the cake will serve. How many people did you serve at your party and how big were the pieces? Thank you!

THANK YOU so much for this wonderful idea! I will be attempting to make this for my son’s 2nd birthday next Saturday (and I’m hoping it turns out half as good as yours did!). Question for you before I begin, how much candy did you use? Will one bag of each of the kit kat/snickers do? Did you use full size snicker bars or minis?
