Almost no-sew quillow!

A few years ago, my friend Lisa and I, made some super cute quillows for our kids.
It is like a quilt, but folds up like a pillow.
They are perfect for keeping in the car, especially on a longer road trip!
First of all, I bought fleece fabric, so that I didn’t even have to sew the edges!
Awesome! 😉
It measures 60 inches long by 36 inches wide.
(If I remember right, it the fabric was 60 inches wide and I got 2 yards of it and just cut it right in half for two blankets!)
Then I cut a coordinating, but different fabric for the pocket.
I cut mine 13 1/2 by 13 1/2.
The ONLY sewing came in here.  I centered the square in the middle of the bottom (as shown above)
and sewed around the edge.  That’s it!  🙂
To fold it, you turn it completely over.  Pocket side down.
Then fold the first side in, to the edge of the pocket, and then the other side.
Next you fold it in thirds up toward the pocket.
 Until it looks like this.
Then you reach into the pocket, grab the corners, and turn it inside out to make the pillow.
It should look similar to this!
Super Soft and Super Easy!!  Make one today!

Covered Foam Pads

The credit for this post really goes to my sister Cali!  Her and her husband made these a few months ago, she just never posted about them.  So when I decided that I “had to have them”, I took pictures and asked her if I could do this post.
*Do you ever go camping and only need a single foam pad?
*Do you have a scout or young woman that needs to take a foam pad to a camp out, but you don’t really want them to have to worry about them blowing one up?  Or getting a hole in it?
Well, here is your answer!
I went and bought 2 foam pads from Fred Meyer, when they were on sale, for $20 each.
They measure 72″  X  30″ and are about 2 1/2″ inches thick.
Then I found these 2 twin size flat sheets from Walmart for $5 each.
I also got a 2 pack king size pillowcase, to store the covered foam pad in for $5.

Trust me…I’m not a great sewer, so if I can do this…so can you!
All I did was sew the right sides of the sheet together.
Yup, one seam along the bottom and one seam along the side!
Sorry, this next picture isn’t that great, but all I did was turn the sown sheet over the foam pad,
so that the right sides are now on the outside.
Then I simply rolled it up and slipped in inside the king sized pillowcase.
Ta da…..and then it looks like a nice big cinnamon roll on the inside.  =)

These are also nice for hosting company (when your air mattress has a leak)
or having sleepovers downstairs with the kids!

Pillow Talk e-book giveaway

I have a new friend.  She is Shelley from Custom Slipcovers by Shelley.  It is so fun that I get to run into her almost every week, where we get to chat and catch up.  She is very talented and creative.  I was so excited when she was interested in having me review her new Pillow Talk e-book.  I’ve been needing to make some cute pillows for my front porch, so this was the perfect motivation to get it done!!

Anyone can sew 2 squares together to make a pillow, but in this e-book Shelley teaches you how to make pillows with zippers, piping, ruffles, and more!  My favorite part about these pillows are that you can take off the covers and use the pillow form inside again.  I hope to have seasonal pillows for my porch (someday) that I can just change the pillow cases and be done.  No more buying and storing 20+ pillows to decorate with.

Here’s how my pillows turned out:

I really learned a lot from making these pillows.  They are far from perfect, but I got a little better with each pillow.  I enjoyed using more features on my sewing machine than just a straight stitch!  I became good friends with my zipper foot by the time I was done with 5 pillows.   🙂  I used a canvas fabric (since I knew they were going outside, I wanted them to be tough) all purchased at Jo-Anns.

We are so excited to offer a free copy of Shelley’s Pillow Talk e-book to one of our readers!  If you are ready to purchase it now, use the coupon code “EVERYTHING” to receive $5 off your e-book.  Offer expires 6/15/12.
