52 weeks of Food Storage

Have you wanted to build your food storage up but don’t know where to start? Here is a great list of options to buy each week. The point is to just start somewhere. Just add a little to your grocery list each week and you’ll slowly build up a supply for your family. This list is not the best, but it does have some great options. Adapt this list to weekly grocery sales, your families likes & needs, etc. Just start somewhere. Happy food storage building!

  1. Thanks for sharing this!! I tend to want to buy EVERYTHING all at once, which I know logically isn’t do-able!!! This is a wonderful breakdown and definitely doesn’t look overwhelming!!! =)

  2. Great idea to break it down into 52 weeks. I need to go through mine right now and discard quite a bit. I love that Pres. Hinckley said that we all would throw some away and that is ok! Makes me not feel so badly.

  3. Where do you buy the 25 & 50 lb bags? Costco or Sam’s Club? And what about the 100 lb container of wheat? I’m assuming this is not wheat flour, but something that needs to be ground as needed.

    1. Buy extra of what you already eat that can go in the pantry. If you want your family to have something in an emergency and it doesn’t have a long shelf life and needs to be rotated, then start slowly finding ways to incorporate it into your current meals or new meals that your family likes.

  5. I haven’t gotten into the regular pantry items yet, but each year beginning in September, I add holiday food items to my weekly shopping list. That way,from the middle of November to the end of the year, I don’t suddenly have a $300 bill trying to do buying for the holiday cooking. Also, I notice that the prices on “holiday” type groceries go up during the holidays. Your ideas are great!!!

  6. Quinoa is healthier than rice or Mac and cheese and it stores better. Instead of the mushroom soup I dehydrate mushrooms and found a recipe online for making mushroom soup with powdered milk. There are lots of recipes for dry soups that easier to store. Our favorite is the potato soup. Also it’s good to sprout wheat, beans, and mung beans. Easy to eat when you can’t cook and very healthy. I keep koumbacha brewing, water kefir and milk kefir.

    1. Ok. I’m new to all this… What is koumbacha & kefir? I’ll google it in a minute but you seem to be very know this stuff.
