I just loved the layout he came up with. (If you are in Utah County, Cory at In-Site Design Group was our great designer!) We had a landscaping company put in the rock wall, patio, and orchard. Now it is our turn to get the garden in. We have a huge garden space, it’s about 30 X 60 feet. Last year, we just tossed everything in to see how it would do. This year we are doing it better, with a better plan. We drew up our plan using graph paper. We hope to do a digital plan sometime, but for now, this works.
Then, last week we started a bunch of seed. (Last year we bought and planted a lot of plant starts. It worked great, but it was a lot more expensive.) After only one week, we can see most of the plants starting to grow!
A month ago or so, my boys planted these seeds at cub scouts. Some tomatoes and flowers. They are doing really good now!
This year, we tilled our soil and added some fertilizer, so we are ready to go. I’m really excited about our little plants growing and so are my kids! It’s been good for us to start from seeds to really see the whole process.
What are you growing this year?
Do you have any planning-your-garden tips for me that would make it easier next year?
Way to go getting your seeds started! I bet that will save you tons of money! We are going to try to plan ours this week too…much smaller scale, but I’m excited to get it going.
That plan is amazing! Will it all be done this summer?! I’d love to come see it sometime!
Wow! Way organized! Good job!
I also built the bottoms of the raised beds, so we could fill them with the removed sod. I’m hoping it is the right size and scale for the shed. There isn’t any electrical so I’ll be using a light hack. Stay tuned for this full transformation. this is just a phased one. I also have plans to make a few additions to the shed and organize the inside. it’s a disaster and needs to be more functional.
I’m reminded of an old saying by Itsy: “The best garden you’ve ever had is the one you’ll have next year!”
Thank you for the inspiration! Over the last year, your channel has motivated me to do so much more in my garden. Goals:
1. Expand my garden from two beds to three
2. Educate my kiddos about permaculture
3. Start seed saving
